Trauma-Informed Support for High-Conflict Co-Parenting

High-conflict co-parenting situations can place children under chronic stress and keep families trapped in repeated court involvement. Parenting coordination services are designed to reduce conflict, support compliance with court orders, and protect children from ongoing parental disputes.

Parenting Coordination Services

As a Parenting Coordinator, I serve in a neutral, non-therapeutic role, focused on helping parents implement existing custody and parenting orders while minimizing escalation and unnecessary litigation.

What Is a Parenting Coordinator?

A Parenting Coordinator (PC) is a neutral professional appointed by the court or agreed upon by both parents to assist with the day-to-day implementation of custody and parenting plans, particularly in high-conflict cases where traditional communication has broken down.

Parenting coordination services are not replacements for therapy or legal representation. Instead, they create a structured, accountability-based process to help parents move forward when conflict interferes with effective co-parenting.

My Role as a Parenting Coordinator

As a Trauma-Informed High-Conflict Parenting Coordinator and Certified Mediator, I help parents:

  • Implement and clarify existing court orders and parenting plans
  • Reduce ongoing conflict that negatively impacts children
  • Manage communication in a structured, child-focused way
  • Resolve recurring disputes related to schedules, exchanges, education, medical coordination, and activities
  • Decrease repeated court filings by addressing issues early and consistently

When authorized by court order or written agreement, I may also provide recommendations or binding directives on limited parenting matters to prevent ongoing stalemates.

Defining Parent Coordination Services

Parenting coordination services ARE:

  • Child-focused
  • Structured and directive
  • Designed for high-conflict situations
  • Focused on compliance, stability, and accountability

Parenting coordination services are NOT:

  • Therapy or counseling sessions
  • Designed to help parents process emotions or past grievances
  • Meant to modify custody or child support measures
  • Substitutes for legal advice

This distinction is critical and helps ensure the process remains effective and respectful of court boundaries.

Who Parenting Coordination Is For

Parenting coordination services are especially helpful when:

  • Parents experience chronic conflict or repeated litigation
  • Communication frequently escalates or breaks down
  • Children are caught in the middle of parental disputes
  • Court orders exist but are difficult to implement consistently
  • Traditional mediation has been unsuccessful

A Trauma-Informed, High-Conflict Approach

High-conflict parenting is often driven by stress, reactivity, and unresolved power struggles. My approach is trauma-informed but not therapeutic, meaning I focus on structure, clarity, and containment, not emotional processing.

Clear boundaries, predictable systems, and consistent expectations help reduce reactivity and create safety for children — and for parents navigating a difficult co-parenting relationship.
